Do I need a BSN to buy a house in the Netherlands?

Yes, you need a BSN (burgerservicenummer, citizen service number) to arrange a mortgage, deal with the tax authorities and complete a home purchase. You receive a BSN when you register with a Dutch municipality, either as a resident (BRP) or, for a short stay, as a non-resident (RNI). Without a BSN you also cannot open a Dutch bank account or arrange DigiD.
