What happens to my pension if I leave the Netherlands?

If you leave the Netherlands, your accrued AOW rights and the pension you have built up through your employer will usually remain intact. Even if you live abroad, you can still receive these benefits once you reach retirement age. The exact rules may depend on tax treaties, the country you live in and your pension provider. It is therefore a good idea to check your rights before leaving the Netherlands. You should also keep your address and contact details up to date so that your pension payments can be made without problems later on.
