Do I need Dutch health insurance (zorgverzekering) and how do I arrange it?

Yes, almost everyone who lives or works in the Netherlands is legally required to take out Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering / zorgverzekering), usually within four months of arriving. You choose a health insurer yourself and can add extra cover (aanvullende verzekering) for things like dental care. A care allowance (zorgtoeslag) may help lower-income residents with the monthly premium.
