It can. Under the bijleenregeling, equity (overwaarde) from a sold home is expected to go into your next home to keep full mortgage interest deduction (hypotheekrenteaftrek). Releasing equity for purposes other than your own home, such as consumption rather than renovation, may not be deductible. The tax effect depends on what you use the money for.
