Loan-to-value (LTV) is the size of your mortgage compared with your home’s value. A lower LTV, meaning you borrow less relative to the value, usually gives a better interest rate because the lender takes less risk. Building equity (overwaarde) or making extra repayments lowers your LTV over time, which can qualify you for a lower rate.
